Liposuction
in West Palm Beach, FL
Excess fat is a problem nearly everyone can relate to. Even the most athletic bodies often have areas of stubborn fat that simply don’t respond to your best efforts at diet and exercise. Pockets of fat can interrupt a smooth, sleek body contour and cause you to feel self-conscious—but you’re not alone. Last year, nearly 350,000 people underwent liposuction to remove fat and now enjoy the benefits of a slimmer, more streamlined shape.
At Synergy Cosmetic Surgery and Medspa, we offer liposuction to our patients who want to achieve perfect proportions. If you’re ready to permanently remove fat and restore and rejuvenate your body, liposuction at Synergy may be the solution for you.
What Is Liposuction?
Liposuction is a surgical procedure designed to eliminate excess fat nearly anywhere on your body. It removes fat permanently, sculpting and defining your body with stunning results.
What Are the Benefits of Liposuction?
Liposuction extracts extraneous fat from “problem areas” on your body, enhancing your natural shape while decreasing unsightly lumps and bumps. Some of the benefits of liposuction include:
- A flatter, firmer stomach
- A slimmer, curvier waist and hips
- Smoother, more toned arms and legs
- Reduced fat under your chin for a more defined jawline
What Areas Can Be Treated With Liposuction?
Liposuction can be performed almost anywhere on your body, from under your chin down to your ankles. The areas most commonly targeted for liposuction include:
- Abdominal area
- Flanks (muffin top)
- Hips (love handles)
- Inner and outer thighs
- Upper arms
- Under the chin
When you come in for your liposuction consultation at Synergy Cosmetic Surgery and Medspa, we will examine you, listen to your concerns, and create a customized plan to treat the areas you wish to improve.
Am I a Candidate for Liposuction?
Ideal candidates for liposuction are nonsmokers in good overall health and who have realistic expectations for what liposuction can achieve. Good candidates for liposuction are patients with a BMI under 25 and are within about 25 pounds of their ideal weight. If you have poor skin elasticity or laxity due to weight loss or aging, you may want to consider combining liposuction with another body contouring surgery (like a tummy tuck or arm lift) that removes extra skin.
Remember, liposuction is not a method of weight loss. Instead, it targets smaller areas of concern and is used to put the finishing touches on your physique.
How Is Liposuction Performed?
Liposuction is performed using local or general anesthesia, depending on the treatment area. Small incisions are made, and a thin hollow tube called a cannula is inserted. Your surgeon will sweep the cannula side to side, loosening excess fat and suctioning it out of your body. The procedure is completed by closing the incisions and applying sterile dressings.
What Can I Expect From My Liposuction Recovery?
While liposuction is generally less invasive than other cosmetic surgery procedures, you will still need to rest and limit your activities for a week or so while you heal. You will experience some minor discomfort, as well as swelling and bruising in the treatment area. Ice packs and over-the-counter pain medication can be used to help keep you comfortable as you heal.
Depending on the extent of your liposuction procedure, you can expect to return to work and most of your daily activities about a week or two after your surgery. Light exercise is allowed (and encouraged), but you should refrain from more strenuous exercise for about a month or until your surgeon clears you.
You will likely be required to wear a compression garment for several weeks after liposuction to help minimize swelling, support the treatment area, and help your skin retract to fit your new shape. Swelling and bruising will decrease gradually, though you may experience residual swelling for up to six months after your procedure.
When Will I See My Liposuction Results?
Most patients see some results immediately after their liposuction surgery. Your results will continue to improve, mainly becoming visible around four to six weeks after your procedure. Depending on the area(s) treated, it may take three to six months to see your final results.
Liposuction results are considered long-lasting, as the fat cells in the treatment area are permanently removed. However, if you gain a significant amount of weight after liposuction, the fat cells in the surrounding areas may increase in size and affect the appearance of your results. Maintaining a stable weight is essential to ensure that your liposuction results remain beautiful for as long as possible.
